The walls are completely magnetic: Cruise ship cabin walls and doors are constructed of heavy-duty steel panels wrapped in vinyl. Advise clients to bring magnetic hooks to easily hang wet swimsuits, itineraries, and hats.
They use air bubbles to glide smoother: Cutting-edge modern ships deploy an “air lubrication system” that continuously pumps tiny micro-bubbles under the hull. This creates a cushion of air that reduces ocean drag and optimizes fuel efficiency.
They anchor using sheer weight: A single link in a mega-cruise ship’s anchor chain can weigh up to 500 pounds, relying on massive gravity rather than a hook shape to stay put.
Left is Port, Right is Starboard: To maintain clear navigation regardless of which way a sailor faces, “Port” always designates the left side of the vessel, while “Starboard” means the right.
A ship’s horn is loud by design: Cruise ship horns can emit blasts measuring up to 120 decibels—roughly equivalent to a rock concert—to signal intention clearly through dense ocean fog.
The water in your cabin is cleaner than tap water: Because the ship produces its own water via multi-stage reverse osmosis filtration and flash evaporation, the water running through your stateroom bathroom sink is technically purer than most residential municipal tap water on land.
